Multilingual Vocabulary
A vocabulary test across 15 European languages. Each screen shows ten words from one language and ten English meanings; pair them up. Click a word, then click its meaning.
The ten words are the same ten concepts in every language, chosen so that each sits at the same frequency level in its own language — measured against subtitle corpora of 0.3–3 million words per language — running from very common down to genuinely rare. Greek, Russian and Ukrainian words are shown in their own script with a romanisation underneath.
You are not expected to know these languages. Guessing from resemblance to words you do know is part of the test, and related languages are meant to be easier. English is used for the meanings, so it is not tested. Random pairing scores about 1 per language, or 15 overall.
