Vocabulary Test (openpsychometrics)
The Vocabulary IQ Test from openpsychometrics.org: 45 lists of five words, and in each you pick the two that mean the same. Vocabulary is the best single short measure of general intelligence in adults who grew up speaking the language.
The items are given here exactly as on the original site, minus its “don't know” option — you have to pick two, so guess when unsure. Scoring is by item response theory from our analysis of the site's public data. Your result is a percentile among native English speakers of your age who took the test there in 2017–18 (N = 9,270) — not an IQ, since they were a self-selected, well-educated group rather than a sample of the population. The test has a low ceiling: one in forty gets everything right.
If English is not your native language your score will mostly reflect exposure to it. Untimed; most people take 7–10 minutes.
Almost done!
Two optional questions, asked once: your age and sex let the results be broken down by who took the test.
Sex as at birth; gender as you identify. Languages you grew up speaking; several are fine, separated by commas. Leave blank anything you would rather not say.
